A Message from Pastor Rich:
I invite you to listen to the sermon online or join us in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings at 11:00 to hear the message that God has laid on my heart. CD's are available of each sermon immediately following the worship service.
The Wednesday night Bible study has been included with the sermons. I hope you get as much from them as I do during the preparation. Sometimes I get so excited it's hard to way until Wednesday night to present the message. All feedback welcomed.

Rev. Rich McLawhorn grew up in Lake City, S.C. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was nine years old. After graduating high school, Rich went to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. His work there was interrupted by military service in the U.S. Army; when Rich returned to the F.B.I., he met Jody and they were married.
After Rich graduated from the University of Maryland, he and Jody moved to South Carolina so he could attend law school. While he was in U.S.C. law school, Rich attended graduate school at night and earned a Master of Public Administration degree.
After graduating from law school, Rich worked in the S.C. legislature for eight years as Director of Research. Then Rich was commissioned by Lexington Baptist Church for a full-time ministry in Cincinnati, Ohio with the National Coalition Against Pornography, where he was Executive Vice President and General Counsel. When Carroll Campbell was elected governor, the McLawhorn family returned to South Carolina for Rich to become Executive Assistant to Governor Campbell.
Rich then became the head of what is now called the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice. While directing this state agency, he felt God calling him to the ministry and left this job. Rich earned a Diploma in Pastoral Ministries from the Seminary Extension of the Southern Baptist Convention, and took other seminary courses at Columbia International University in Columbia where later he taught Bible classes in a community outreach program.
Rich was ordained by Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia. He has served as a law enforcement chaplain and as a pastor (Little River Baptist Church, Fairfield County, SC for seven years). Most recently, Rich has been president of S.C. Baptist Ministries for the Aging.
Rich and Jody have five children (ages 20-32) and two grandchildren (both 1½ years old). Jody is a children’s Sunday School teacher and is active in a number of church programs.
Rich has a diverse background, but he felt a growing need to be back in the pastorate. He has a passion to teach and preach, loves Jesus and is totally committed to serving Jesus Christ and Garden City Baptist Church.
